Abstract
The sound produced by a wild female Atlantic salmon cutting a redd had a significant priming effect on the reproductive physiology of mature male Atlantic salmon parr. There were significant increases in both the levels of plasma 17 alpha ,20 beta -dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (17,20 beta P), and the levels of expressible milt. The data suggests that auditory cues may have a significant role in synchronising reproductive physiology in the Atlantic salmon.
