Abstract
    Atretic follicles were found in great abundance and prevalence in Irish Sea sole at the start of spawning - suggesting that annual egg production may be lower than annual fecundity. Capture and confinement of female sole in tanks was used to investigate the rate of development of atretic follicles - using histological criteria.
