Abstract
Young plaice and sole were kept for more than a year in large tanks at different constant temperatures and a natural light-dark cycle. Food digestion and growth of the fish were measured at monthly intervals. The amount of food digested in 24 h was correlated with the metabolic weight of the fish; growth rate was correlated with the size of the fish and water temperature. Feeding and growth showed a seasonal variation, possibly correlated with the change in the day-night cycle.
