Abstract |
An infestation rate of 22.3 % characterizes the parasitic association between the blue starfish Linckia laevigata and the prosobranch mollusc Thyca crystallina around Laing Island. Infestation rate varies significantly with the degree of water movement. The smallest molluscs occur on the upper and lateral faces of the starfish arms; their orientation with regard to the starfish mouth is seemingly not at random. The largest molluscs are found on the oral arm surface on the right hand side of the ambulacral groove and facing the starfish mouth. The Thyca/Linckia association of Laing Island is compared with that occurring around the Banda Islands. |
