Abstract |
A generalized extreme value distribution is presented as a tool for the magnitude characterization of seismic source areas, including parameter estimation formulae and an application. Concerning the source to site transfer the concept of individual intensity attenuation laws and its realization by simulated macroseismic load collectives is described. The load collectives exhibit the most probable ranges of focal parameters consistent with a given site intensity. Response spectra have consequently been derived from strong motion records belonging to appropriate focal and soil conditions, avoiding the usual employment of peak acceleration and its poor correlation to intensity. |
