Abstract |
The present knowledge of seaquakes, or seismic acoustic shock waves in water, is scarce. Detailed studies on this phenomenon have not been undertaken. However, it is generally recognized that submerged structures or structural members that are not fully flooded will be subjected to large hydrodynamic pressure pulses from seismic acoustic shock waves in addition to the hydrostatic pressure. Less is known about the vibrational effects. However, several cases are reported in which ships in the open sea have experienced severe vibrations or have been damaged due to seaquakes. |
