Abstract: |
De Vlaamse Instelling voor Technologisch Onderzoek (VITO) is een onafhankelijke onderzoeks- en ontwikkelingsinstelling die zich richt op innovatieve technologieën en wetenschappelijke kennis om de overgang naar een meer duurzame samenleving en economie te faciliteren. VITO ontwikkelt innovatieve technologische oplossingen en levert wetenschappelijk onderbouwd advies en ondersteuning om duurzame ontwikkeling te stimuleren en de economische en sociale omgeving in Vlaanderen en daarbuiten te versterken.
Het onderzoek van VITO is onderverdeeld in vijf thema's waaronder:
- duurzame chemie;
- duurzaam landgebruik;
- duurzame gezondheid;
- duurzame materialen;
- duurzame energie.
Remote sensing en modellering van landgebruik zijn de kerntechnologieën die worden toegepast op duurzaam landgebruik. Binnen de eenheid Remote Sensing wordt de focus gelegd op de ontwikkeling en demonstratie van beeldverwerkingsalgoritmen en bijbehorende modellen, waarbij gebruik wordt gemaakt van (bemande en onbemande) vliegtuigen, waterplatforms en satellietwaarnemingen. |
