Abstract
There was no evidence of a substantial effect of salinity on the reproductive endocrinology or gonadal development of black bream, with reproduction proceeding normally in fish held in water of 5-35ppt salinity. Handling stress caused the elevation of plasma cortisol and suppression of plasma E sub(2) but when fish were maintained with minimal disturbance, plasma E sub(2) levels recovered.
