Abstract
    Androgens were administered to sticklebacks via the ambient water. Kidney epithelium height (KEH) measurements indicated significant stimulation in both males and females. Furthermore, the androgen-induced 'glue' protein, spiggin, was localised histochemically in the tubules of the secondary proximal segment. Spiggin was collected from the urinary bladders of fish in breeding conditions, was purified with SDS-PAGE and injected into rabbits. The first stages of ELISA development are promising.
