Abstract
Culture raised one year old cod originating from two strains, Northeast Arctic (NEAC) and coastal cod (CC), were kept at three temperatures, 8, 12 and 15 degree C. Rate of maturation, gonadosomatic (GSI) and hepatosomatic index (HSI) in their second year of life was recorded and is presented as function of strain, individual growth rate and haemoglobin type within the temperature groups. Nearly all CC were maturing or ripe at the end of the experiment, while about one fifth of the NEAC still were immature. GSI was on average higher among the CC fish than among the NEAC fish, and a slight correlation between GSI and HSI was observed.
