Abstract
A highly sensitive and specific chemiluminescent immunoassay (CLIA) was developed for measuring growth hormone (GH) in salmonids. In mature cutthroat trout, serum GH levels were elevated from November to December. In maturing female fish, profiles of serum estradiol-17 beta (E2) and vitellogenin (Vg) levels match these changes in serum GH. These results suggest that elevated GH concentrations may play a role in endocrine regulation of sexual maturation in salmonid fish.
