Abstract
A simplified in vitro culture system, using liver slices, was attempted to analyze the endocrine control of egg yolk precursor proteins (vitellogenin; VTG) gene expression in Japanese eel, Anguilla japonica. A significant increase in VTG mRNA levels was detected by RT-PCR only in tissues incubated with estradiol-17 beta (E2) in the presence of bovine serum albumin (BSA), suggesting that BSA plays a role in this system.
