Abstract
Cortisol treatment resulted in a retardation of the pubertal testicular development. Similar treatment of adolescent fish had no effects on spermatogenesis. Steroidogenesis in vitro was suppressed in cortisol treated pubertal fish, but not in adolescent fish. This indicates that puberty is a critical period in which fish are more susceptible to effects of cortisol than after puberty.
