Abstract
Aerial photo-interpretation and GIS where combined to develop transition matrices of the succession of dune vegetation structure resulting from groundwater level changes. The total cover of the vegetation only changes slightly while the vegetation height strongly increased. Ideas are presented as to how studies of this kind might be used for spatial surface pattern analysis and landscape succession modelling.
