| Abstract |
Some topics related to the niche, interspecific competition and resource partitioning in marine benthic communities are reviewed. In the sessile suspension-feeding guild and creeping grazer guild occurring on a hard substratum, space acquirement is of primary importance for subsistence, and space competition is often serious, even among different phyletic groups. In the infaunal communities of the sediment bottom, direct competition for resources is rather rare, and interspecific exclusion mainly occurs by alteration of the condition of the surface sediment, such as bioturbation. |
