Abstract
One of the principal issues in British Columbia is the management of land for competing uses? While much of the discussion on land-use management deals with technical issues and disputes in specific watersheds, increasing attentions being paid to the nature of the decision-making process. This paper assesses the current process for crown-land management in B.C. Criteria are developed for evaluating decision-making structures and these criteria are used to evaluate existing processes. It concludes that the current process should be reformed to better take into account the diverse objectives of land-use planning. In particular, the opportunities for diverse stakeholder involvement in the decision-making process should be increased.
