Abstract
    After the gale of 14 February 2005, a major wreck of soft bottom benthic organisms occurred at Koksijde. Unusual were the numbers of the bivalves Mactra corallina (100s), Ensis directus (1,000s, many still alive) and especially the ophiurid Ophiura ophiura (10,000s).
