Abstract
Current management techniques adopted for many species in the Northeast Atlantic depend on catch predictions made from estimates of stock size and predicted incoming recruitment. The traditional fisheries for sprats Sprattus sprattus in the North Sea were largely inshore fisheries depending on overwintering concentrations. The main point here is to demonstrate the short-lived nature of sprats in the North Sea population.
