| Abstract |
Although water purification stations have been operational since quite some time, recreational water quality along the Belgian coast is not improving. Effluents of these stations are even thought to be the cause of increasing eutrophic phenomena and the intrinsic antimicrobial action of the process towards pathogenic bacteria is far from convincing. Since more than 15 years the authors recommend the study and the application of an alternative solution by submarine pipe-lines. This procedure would be more efficient and cheaper and seems particularly adapted to the dynamics of the water masse$ along the Belgian coast. |
