| Abstract |
Diatoms from Arcachon Bay and oyster ponds near La Rochelle (Atlantic coast, France) have been examined by electron microscopy (TEM and SEM). Cells were obtained from natural samples, cultures and oyster larvae extracts. A brief description of the studied areas is given and the results focus on the smaller diatom forms (20 mu m). Illustrations of 21 species belonging to 10 genera (Achnanthes, Amphora, Cocconeis, Cyclotella, Fragilaria , Minidiscus, Navicula, Rhopalodia, Skeletonema and Thalassiosira) are presented, most of them being newly reported for these areas. |
