Abstract
In Trachinus vipera, venomous glands are dependent of spines burden by first dorsal fin and operculary bone. These glands without canals are composed of great glandular cells and support-cells for which two functions are pointed out: they allow tissue cohesiveness by a great number of desmosomes and interdigitations between adjacent cells; they renew young glandular cells and assume the initiation of the secretion of venom constituents. Epidermal origin of supporting cells is demonstrated. Hypothesis about glandulary cells evolution is proposed.
