Abstract
    Acrylamide gel electrophoresis of entire crushed Sphaeroma and observations of esterase activity on an - naphtyl acetate substrate enabled the authors to distinguish S. serratum, S. monody and S. teissieri, while S. hookeri and S. rugicauda show an identical esterase composition. The use of different substrates and the action of varied inhibitors corroborate the analogies between S. hookeri and S. rugicauda and the differences observed among the other species. However, it can be observed that in isoenzymes of S. monody, while having a different relative mobility, shows the same reactions in front of inhibitors and different substrates as an isoenzyme common to S. hookeri and S. rugicauda. Observations and arguments from previous experiments corroborate the isolation of S. serratum and S. teissieri and the relationship of S. hookeri and S. rugicauda, with which S. monody has some similarities.
