Abstract
    A. tentaculata possesses a ventral pharyngeal diverticulum the cuticulated epithelium which includes numerous mucous glandular cells elaborating a mixed sulphated and carboxylated mucus. This pharyngeal pouch is lined on its ventral side by a voluminous ventral muscle bulb, the structure of which suggests that the annelid may use its partly exsertile pharynx as a mucous tongue allowing it to absorb feeding particles mainly by sucking.
