Abstract
Jaera females are not inseminated through a ventral opening as in other Crustacea, but through a dorsal one. The males copulatory appendages show a high functional coaptation of their different parts. Contrarily to the premating behaviour, the copulatory process is a very conservative one, as could be expected from the theory of intraspcific sexual selection.
