Abstract
    C. circumscriptum is a littoral and C. compactum a sublittoral species. Both are usually quite difficult to recognize. The study of their anatomical variations leads to a better description of their specific characters and shows some morphogenetic features quite remarkable among the Lithothamnieae. These are essentially due to the regenerating ability of the perithallial cells.
