Abstract
    The study carried out on P. avirostris Dana collected in the waters of the Agulhas Bank between July 1964 and June 1967 has shown that in this parthenogenetic cladoceran its annual cycle can be discontinuous and that sexual reproduction takes place only once a year. Between Nov 1965 and Oct 1966, P. avirostris was found in the waters of the Knysna Lagoon only from Nov till June; it is not clear if its settling was temporary or permanent.
