Abstract
    The number of chromosomes of S. alveolata and S. spinulosa has been reinvestigated with the squash technique. The study of meiosis reveals that there are 16 chromosomes in haploid stages. Observations on segmented eggs of S. alveolata confirm that the diploid number is 32.
