| Abstract |
This new collection derived from a deep sea zone off the Atlantic coasts of the USA and from the equatorial Atlantic Ocean contains 16 spp including 2 new genera and 5 new spp. These are Polycitor? Profundus sp. n., Abyssascidia millari sp.n., Styela minima sp.n., Bathypyura asymetrica gen. et sp. n., Protomolgula bythia gen. et sp n. The size of the animals is extremely reduced: some adult individuals measure less than 1 mm in diameter. Protomolgula and Bathypyura are original forms and exhibit an extremely simplified morphology with numerous juvenile characteristics. |
