Abstract
Modern management plans should take into account the restoration and/or development of natural processes rather than protect stable spatial structures or patterns in a landscape. This kind of process-management' should form the framework within which utility functions of the terrain are to be evaluated and allocated. The dynamic approach has consequences for the size of reserves, the required management expertise and for physical planning.
