Abstract
    The manager who controls the relief, controls much of the dune landscape. Therefore he has to be familiar with the geomorphological processes caused by wind and slope wash. Medium-term planning is concerned with landscape units which develop in the course of decades. Geomorphological information for this level of planning can be derived from sequential aerial photographs and soil profiles. Short-term planning deals with small forms like blowouts which can develop and become extinct within a few years. In the course of time these transient features will completely alter the dune landscape. Therefore, the dune manager has to know where, when and how the processes begin, which forms are developed and how he can stop the processes when necessary. For planning stabilizing measures the dune manager should be acquainted with the resistance to erosion processes which can be offered by vegetation and soils.
