| Abstract |
A morphology model for the prediction of beach erosion in the vicinity of a seawall has been developed. The effect of wave reflection off a continuous seawall was included in the different components of the model. The morphology model was verified against wave flume and wave basin physical model tests, and predicted the beach evolution well for the cases simulated. A sensitivity analysis of the numerical model was also performed. The numerical results showed that the reflected wave had a small effect on the beach profile evolution, and only reduced the volume of erosion close to the seawall slightly. The morphology model also showed that for the cases tested the volume of erosion for beaches backed by a seawall was nearly the same as that for a beach without a seawall. |
