Abstract
    A model is presented of the dynamic primary and secondary production relationships representative of the algae-copepod interactions in Loch Striven, Scotland. The algal reproduction is environmentally controlled by daily radiation, cloud, wind and temperature and is influenced by the nutrient level described by a Monod-equation. The grazing of the copepods on the algae is described by a Holling's type equation incorporating a developmental response, and the development of the copepod cohorts is regulated by temperature and food. The nitrate flow is given as the uptake by algae in reproduction and replacement by copepod excretion. The mixing of nutrients above and below the wind influenced mixed layer is incorporated. The model results are compared with field data and the stability of the model is discussed.
