Abstract
The luteinizing hormone (LH)-releasing activities of the three native forms of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) identified in striped bass, and of novel synthetic agonists (GnRHa) were evaluated during vitellogenesis. The longer duration of LH stimulation by the chicken (c) GnRH-II suggests that this form is less prone to enzymatic degradation probably because the endogenous peptidases have a higher specificity for the usually more abundant seabream (sb) GnRH. Similarly, of the GnRHas tested, again the GnRHas based on the cGnRH-II had a higher potency than the ones prepared based on the sbGnRH form. None of the novel GnRHas had a higher gonadotropic potency than the commonly used DAla super(6)-mGnRHa.
