Abstract
    Two types of cDNA closely related to mammalian GTH receptors have been cloned from tilapia (O. niloticus) testis. These two cDNAs, named tGTH-RI and tGTH-RII, encode 701 and 693 amino acids, respectively. Northern blot analyses at different stages of ovarian follicler development revealed that tGTH-RI mRNA was largely expressed in early-vitellogenic follicles. In contrast, tGTH-RII was predominantly expressed in late-vitellogenic and postvitellogenic follicles. These results suggest that the two GTH receptors should play different roles in tilapia oogenesis.
