Abstract
The cDNA for P450 aromatase, an essential enzyme for estrogen biosynthesis, was cloned from the brain and ovary of Oreochromis mossambicus. The brain form shares 58% identity with the ovarian form and shows higher sequence identity to Carassius auratus brain aromatase (66%). A single transcript for the two aromatase forms has been found specific for the tissues from which they were cloned. Both enzymes appear to be expressed in embryos from 5 days post fertilisation
