Abstract
The size of mRNAs for two different estrogen receptors (ERs; ER-1 and ER-2) vary in the gonads of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). A quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) developed for ER-1 showed two distinct periods of ER mRNA expression in the ovary. Phylogenetic analysis indicates that ER-1 and ER-2 are closely related and recently evolved.
