Abstract |
The ballast process of a ship model for towing tank tests is an important step of the preparation of a ship model, ensuring its characteristics meet the required design values. The procedure at Flanders Hydraulics consists of 2 main parts: a ship calibration process calculating the characteristics of an empty ship model by use of a physical pendulum, and a ballasting process, where ballast blocks are added to the ship to modify its mass, centre of gravity and inertia tensor. The existing calibration routine at FH was analysed, and the assumptions on which the error analysis was based, were examined. From these results, a modified calculation method was developed and imple |
