Abstract
This chapter reviews the history and development of sea cucumber fisheries in the western United States of America. Descriptions of fisheries are provided for Alaska, Oregon, and California, all of which are responsible for independently managing a sea cucumber fishery at the state government level, and Washington, where fisheries are comanaged equally by both state and treaty tribal authorities. Also included is a summary of current management concerns, emerging issues, and some options for natural resource authorities to consider for improving sea cucumber fishery management in the Northeast Pacific Ocean.
