Abstract
Marine heterobranchs are beautiful gastropod mollusc creatures and one of the least studied animals in Great Nicobar as well as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. The present study was carried out in the intertidal and subtidal reef areas of Great Nicobar Island. During the study, a total of 30 species from 13 families were recorded from 9 study sites. The study area of B. quarry intertidal and subtidal was represented by 15 species, whereas only 1 species was found in the subtidal region of Campbell Bay jetty. Among 13 families of Heterobranchia, the families Dendrodoridae and Phyllidiidae contributed 23% of species composition each. The species similarity between B. quarry and Pigeon Island showed the highest similarity (55%) due to the lesser geographical distance. Campbell Bay fishing jetty was faunistically distant from all study areas, with no similarities due to a single species record. The present chapter also included a checklist of 50 species of opisthobranch fauna from the Great Nicobar Island.
