Abstract
Recent literature has highlighted the need to incorporate the role of dynamic environmental conditions, particularly climate-driven environment changes, in the integrated stock assessment modeling process as a key step toward adaptive fishery management in a changing environment. However, most stock assessment models to date continue to assume status quo environmental conditions and do not explicitly incorporate the impact of environmental stochasticity or trends. There remains a knowledge gap in evaluating the synergistic impacts of climate change on stock status as well as maximizing the efficiency and accuracy of the existing stock assessment program to mitigate the negative effects of climate change. This chapter reviews ongoing efforts to incorporate climate-driven environment changes into the assessment of commercial fish stocks.
