Abstract
The chapter reviews how partnerships developed to reduce eutrophication for Poole Harbour, a UK estuarine European Marine Site that discharges to the English Channel. It examines the development of strategies between Statutory Agencies, Authorities and Water Utilities to reduce point and diffuse sources of nitrogen from its freshwater sources delivered through a broader cooperation within a Catchment Partnership. It reviews the challenges of achieving statutory compliance (under Habitats and Water Framework Directives) with engaging voluntary action from landowners; with linking freshwater and marine interests and of financing diffuse pollution solutions to provide multiple benefits for both the Marine Protected Area (MPA) and its upstream, freshwater catchment.
