| Abstract |
Aplidium glabrum is native to the cold and Arctic regions. It is a colony-forming species with a striking sponge-like appearance. The colonies have the shape of crusty lumps, are slightly translucent and can be grey, yellow or even orange (caused by the presence of larvae) in colour. A. glabrum got first reported along our coast in 2000 in the marina of Zeebrugge. There, it grows on ropes, quays, pontoons and other hard substrates. Most likely, the species got introduced via the oyster import. |
