Abstract
Within the family CYPRAEIDAE, the genus Ransoniella Dolin & Lozouet, 2005 contained at its creation, apart from 13 Cainozoic European species, the recent Indo-Pacific type species Notadusta punctata (Linné, 1771) sensu Schilder & Schilder, 1971. This situation was mainly due to the small sheU size of most recent populadons of Ransoniella. The chromatic characteristics, as well from the animal as from the shells are constant between the different species. Initiated by the remarks of Meyer (2003), who stated that « genetic divergence between subspecies [of R. punctata] is often equivalent or even greater than between recognized species [in other genera] », we started examinating a Philippine sample which is importanteither by quantity and quality. It concerns among others shells collected during the expedition « Panglao Marine Biodiversity Project 2004 ». It is shown that Notadusta punctata (Linné, 1771) sensu Schilder & Schilder (1971) is a complex of sympatric species. A neotype is designated (or Ransoniella atomaria (Gmelin, 1791) and the species is redefined, 3 species are reported for the first time forthe Philippines: R. iredalei (Schilder & Schilder, 1938), R. persticta (Iredale, 1939) and R. carula (Iredale, 1939). At last, 12 new species are described, 5 morphospecies are reported but not yet described.
