The ATOC, (Acoustical Thermometry of Ocean Climate) was a project designed to use sound waves to measure the temperature of the Ocean. The project became very controversial, in part due to misunderstandings among scientists, and between the scientific and lay communities.Studying the information flow and reactions of all these groups can inform us on how scientists communicate with each other, and the role of the Internet in dispersing information about science. |
