| Abstract |
Three species of Volvarina constituing a poorly differentiated group of forms within Western Indian Ocean, namely V. micans (Petit, 1851), V. obscura (Reeve, 1865) and V.compressa (Reeve, 1865), are revised and compared with a set of similar forms from the same area, such as V. fortunata Clover & Macca, 1990, V. fulgida (Lussi & Smith, 1999) and V. dinisioi (Cossignani, 2006), together with four new species from the same region: V. kilwaensis sp. nov., V. arabica sp. nov., V. dhofarensis sp. nov. and V. somalica sp. nov. The wholeset constituted by these various species must be considered provisionally as polyphyletic. |
