| Abstract |
The morphology and anatomy of barnacle larvae and adults (Cirripedia: Thoracica: Balanomorpha) are reviewed, as well as their natural history (feeding, reproduction, embrionary and larval development, settlement, metamorphosis, and growth), their classification and their ecological role. We present information about the importance of barnacles in two aspects of applied ecology (fouling and biological invasions) and a list of the species of Argentina and Uruguay, living both in the littoral zone and as epibionts on marine vertebrates. An identification key of the coastal species of this region is presented. |
