Abstract
On 3–4 February 1990 a section of the catamaran Rapaiti was washed ashore on the North Wales coast, UK, 71 days after its reported loss 350 km north west of Cape Finisterre, Spain. Surface wind vectors provided by the UK Meteorological Office have been applied to reconstruct the probable track of the wreckage, a wind to water transfer factor (f) of 2.6% and zero angular deflection (α) giving the closest estimate (12.6 km) to the point of beaching.
