Abstract
    A historical account of the building and operations (1932-1960) of the Belgian training vessel Mercator (used for the naval instruction to the Belgian army officers and sailors) is combined with a guidance text for visits to the ship, now a floating museum at the harbour of Oostende (Belgium).
