Abstract
We have investigated on the morphology of several lots of Ritteriella amboinensis, both proles solitaria and proles gregata, from different areas of the Red Sea and Indian and Atlantic Oceans and computed our results with the data of the literature.By comparing the aggregate forms of Ritteriella amboinensis and Salpa maxima, which look quite similar, significant differences have been underlined at the level of the siphons and mainly of the average number of fibrils of the truncal muscles. On a map, we have summed up all the informations available on the geographical distribution of Ritteriella amboinensis which reveals itself to be mainly an intertropical species of the Indo-Pacific Ocean, living in waters of high salinities and temperature, but data nevertheless remain too scarse to allow closer ecological conclusions.
