Abstract
Planohowchinia n. gen. is a foraminiferal genus (Lasiodiscidae) identified from upper Vis an rocks of the Guadiato Area (SW Spain), for which a new species, Planohowchinia espielensis, is proposed. Previous authors had discovered the taxon, although they misinterpreted its morphology and erroneously attributed it to typical Namurian Eolasiodiscus. The species is confined to foraminiferal zone 15, and its first appearance has been locally used as a marker of the zone. The genus arose from Howchinia, and seems endemic to Spain.
